📚 Alibaba launches A.I. tool to generate images from text

Chinese technology giant Alibaba on Friday launched Tongyi Wanxiang, an artificial intelligence tool that can generate images from prompts.

Tongyi Wanxiang is Alibaba’s latest generative AI offering as tech giants in China and the U.S. look to race ahead with the technology.

There are already AI text-to-image generation services available at the moment.

OpenAI’s DALL-E and a service called Stable Diffusion are two of the most well-known.

In a recent interview, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy discussed the company's plans to compete in the AI race.

Jassy emphasized Amazon's investments in AI across various sectors, including developing custom chips and unveiling a generative AI service called Bedrock.

He believes that Amazon's investments will give them an advantage in the AI race, as AI has become a key focus within the company.

Jassy sees AI as a technology with immense potential to enhance customer experiences.

Prof Stuart Russell, an AI and computer science expert at UC Berkeley, suggests that AI-driven personalised tutors could replace the traditional classroom.

Virtual tutors using natural language processing systems can potentially deliver high school material globally and improve education accessibility.

However, concerns exist regarding indoctrination and job redundancy. While human involvement will still be necessary, the role of teachers may change significantly, leading to a drastic reduction in their numbers.

This technology has the potential to revolutionize education while bringing about significant transformations.
